OSPF Master and Slave?

In OSPF before exchanging the database, routers choose who will be the master and slave. How will they choose the master and slave? Does it depend from priority or router ID? Any suggestions...

Re: OSPF Master and Slave?

Hi WVAUX,

Thank's for the link, but it doesn't tell how the routers choose who will be a master and who will be the slave. It only tells that one of them will be a master and the other a slave.

Re: OSPF Master and Slave?

Not all networks need a DR and BDR. Only broadcast and non-broadcast network types hold DR elections.

Point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and loopback network types do not hold DR elections. However, for those that elect a DR / BDR, the router with the highest priority is Elected DR. If all routers have the same priority, the router with the highest Router ID is elected. a similar election is held for BDR.
