OSPF NSSA on 2 ABR's

Hi,

I've set up:

area0 nssa area0

+-----------------+----------------+

area0 routers are connected to each other as well.

I would expect to see on both ABR's N# routes so both routers are ABR's

for NSSA area but

I see on the first ABR E# routes and on the second N# ones.

Any ideas ?

Hi,

The nssa routes which is type 7 N routes will get converted to External type 5 so other routers in backbone will see nssa as E# routes only.

I know that.

The question is - why on the first NSSA ABR I see the N# (LSA type 7)routes

but on the second E#(Type 5 LSA).Is there kind of election for NSSA ABR ?

Hi,

Since the two routers are connected via backbone area also, the nssa routes will appear as external routes which take preferance over nssa routes so the route in R2 will appear as external.

Also in this kind of scenario the abr's are prefered by their highest router id according to my understanding.
