Packets Drop Due to IP Checksum Error

Hi,

We are having a lot of ip checksum errors reported by the DFC on our core switches. Problem is, we cannot pinpoint where this packets are coming from that are consequently being dropped by the core. So we are not able to determine the cause of such error.

Is there any way to capture the packets being dropped so we can see the source address?

Thanks,

jonathan

Re: Packets Drop Due to IP Checksum Error

Tracking down the source packets will be difficult. The switch hardware does not forward the invalid packets so you will not be able SPAN ports to track them down. In order to use packet capture to track them down you will need an inline sniffer. However, if they are occuring with some frequency you can disable the ports on the reporting linecard - one at a time - to see when the messages stop. This will give you a direction to trace back toward to find the source.
