Password Reset

I was chnaging the enable password on one of 4006 switches, I think I missed typed the password.. I'm on the switch right now in enable mode, how can I change the enable the password?

As I'm sure you've already found out by now, you can't change the password if you don't know the existing one, even from enable mode.

You need to power the switch down and then back up. After that, you have 30 seconds to log in and change the password, 'cause the passwords are null (empty) the first 30 seconds after boot. So each time you're asked for an existing password, also when changing it, just press Enter.

PS: The assumption here is that you're running CatOS, not IOS on a Sup3 or 4.

In fact we were able to change the password using SNMP... Thanks for your help.....
