I have a customer who is trying to use Novell Zenworks Imaging to image PCs. Everything works fine through 3550-24 and 3550-48 switches (portfast enabled on the ports). However, a couple of labs plug into the 48 port ethernet blade of a 6509. These PCs, when trying to boot off of the imaging boot disk, cannot get a dhcp address. The dhcp process starts, hangs for about 20-30 seconds and then comes up with a DHCP failure message.
--Portfast is enabled on the 6509 ports that PCs are plugged into.
--If I move the port to a 3550 switch, DHCP works fine.
--If I manually run the DHCP client program after the failure (from the linux shell of the PC), then DHCP works as it should.
--A sniffer shows that the DHCP broadcast is made and the offer comes back, and then there is no further action in the sequence.
--I have tried turning on/off portfast and have also change speed and duplex settings on the ports--all with no effect.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
