We have 2 6509's with MSFC's running hsrp with GE trunk. Currently we have all vlans active on the primary switch (cisco's recommendation to isolate problems to set everything to default) When both ftp server(vlan11) and client(vlan15) are on secondary switch, 15MB file transfer takes about 4 mins. If client moves to the primary switch the transfer takes about 1 min. According to Cisco this shouldn't be so. Any ideas?
check that you HSRP address isn't duplicated on a physical interface somewhere else.
I've seen something similar where the HSRP address was duplicated on a legacy routers physical interface. Interesting, only the legacy router logged the conflict in it's error log but while the legacy router fights with the HSRP process you get a performance hit.
From a PC, try continously pinging the HSRP address. Capture a sample with a sniffer and check that you are not getting lost pings or responses from the HSRP IP address addresses other than the virtual MAC used by the HSRP process. If you are, identify the rouge.
