Ping 224.0.0.1

Why do i receive a response from servers when i ping 224.0.0.1 from the router since those servers do not have any streaming media configured?

The router has no configuration to multicast traffic and no multicast application is known on the LAN .

Thanks in advance.

Re: Ping 224.0.0.1

It appears that your Servers are running some kind of service or application that is listening in the multicast range. If you are running certain routing protocols on your LAN (OSPF, EIGRP) then yes you do have a "multicast application".
