Ping from source router serial to destination serial not working

I am facing one problem in PPP link on live circuit, when I am pinging from soruce serial IP address to destination serial IP address from router as well as desktop it's giving requested out(not pinging) even extened serial to serial ping also. This is happend only after adding NM 4B S/T card at remote end C2610 Router. Actually we are working on making ISDN backup for the PPP link.

But I am able to ping from router / desktop Source ethernet IP to destination ethernet IP, also working in extended ping.

We are not configured serial link unnumbered since we are using Public WAN IP address for the serial link and same IP using fro Dialer also.

Finaly Toady I have made ISDN backup tesing using the same senario and I am able to dialout and it is working fine but the problem is till persist that Pinging from source router IP to Destination IP from the router.

Can any one help me out on this problem.

Re: Ping from source router serial to destination serial not wor

hello,

Put these commands on the serial interfaces of both routers

exmaple:

interface s0/0

ignore-dcd

no keepalive

that should do it.

cheers

Re: Ping from source router serial to destination serial not wor

Applying the config above will do nothing all this will do is make the interface look like it is up when it reallyt is not if you do not have a end to end circuit you will not be able to ping

Can you paste in a sh int serial x from both sides and the config of both interfaces

Re: Ping from source router serial to destination serial not wor

If you have a modem that doesn't send keepalive messages to your router, your line protocol will be down. We already know that the line is up and we can ping behind the serial interface.

Let him put it in and do the ping test again

Re: Ping from source router serial to destination serial not wor

I Have just did the same & this is making even ethernet to ethernet ping not going....

Re: Ping from source router serial to destination serial not wor

I think there is nothing wrong with your original config. Just disable the access list on both end interfaces and try a ping. I guess access list need adjustment.

Re: Ping from source router serial to destination serial not wor

Are you using the same IP addresses on the backup ISDN as well as the Serial Link. In your original link you said 'since we are using Public WAN IP address for the serial link and same IP using fro Dialer also.'

If you are using the same IP address as the ISDN try changing the ISDN IP addresses

Re: Ping from source router serial to destination serial not wor

Just want to remind you that if you block ICMP in AL, even though it would be blocked only in IN direction, the ping will not be successfull, because the packet has to get back.

If it's only ping not working, and everything else is working fine, then it sounds like there are just some security measures (firewall, etc) that prevent ping from operating properly.

Try SNMP ping, if you have SNMP enabled.

Re: Ping from source router serial to destination serial not wor

I Just wanted to inform you that SNMP is not configured at A end, it is configured only at B-End becasue B-end is the gateway for the remote location.

I don't think so becasue of this we are facing this problem.
