Ping not working

There is a peculiar and strange thing happening on our network.

We have a Switched VLAN L2/L3 network and are able to ping anywhere on the network via MSFCs.

Today, we are not able to ping a particular PC but a singe PC can ping this same server.

We have tried everything but no other PC is able to ping this server except this single PC.

How can this happen? What should I be looking for?

Is the single PC located at the same segment of the server ? Did you configure the default gateway in the server ?

Hope this helps.

No, this is the structure.

The Server is on a VLAN1 that has 2 ip addresses, a main ip address and a secondary ip address.

All the other PCS are another VLAN2 which has l one main ip address.

All the PCs on this VLAN2 cannot ping this server except for this one single PC.

The Server in question has 2 network cards; there is a gateway on one of the cards and a static route to get to the rest of the network on the server.

Thanks

is this pc running windows xp sp2?

if so, check that the firewall is not blocking icmp requests (control panel>windows firewall>exceptions)

We are all running Winxpsp2 but with FW turned off. Thanks

Seen the culprit. The Server we are trying to configure which happens to be an ISA server actually has configured on it that only the PC is allowed to remote manage to it.

Hence, it was the only PC that could ping to it. When I added other PCs to the list, these PCs were also able to ping to it.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your update. It looks like an application issue more than networking issue.
