Pix automatic fail over to a different route if a primary route is down

I have a route statement to route traffic to a router for point to point frame-relay traffic. If I lose the frame-relay, I want the traffic to route to a VPN instead. On the other end is a 3com router that has that capability. Does pix have that capability? If so, what entry or setting needs to be made?

You can run VPN session from PIX to the other end. and give a floating static route from your router to the PIX inside interface. The second static route should have higher administrative distance.

Well, that's what I thought but here are my entries in the Pix:

route dmz3 FPS 255.255.255.0 FPSRouter 1

route dmz3 FPS 255.255.255.0 FPSVPN 2

If I disconnect FPSRouter and do a traceroute, the traceroute still attempts to go to FPSRouter and not FPSVPN.

Anyone have a suggestion or an answer?
