I have read the chapter of IP multicast routing on the Catalyst 4500 series switch, and known that it supports hardware and software forwarding. The document refer that the multicast packets with ip options are always forwarded in software, well,I want to know what are the "packets with ip options" refer to?

I think they are the packets with 'Options field' in the IP Header. Though I am not exactly not sure which multicast/unicast applications use this field.
Here is the link which gives more info on this.
