Hi all,
I need to set up network monitoring through web browsers using MRTG, over my network I had 2 Cisco 2503 router, 1 Cisco 2950 switch, but I do not really
know what to do? What are the setting I need do at the router and the switch
and also at the MRTG itself?
I need to monitor the network like ping test, bandwidth Utilization, and as
for the switch need to monitor each port Utilization.
I am learning on my own (self-study) for my CCNA, so I really take this as a
chance as a process to learn as well. Pls someone out there, pls guide me to
setup, what are the setting I need to set up at the router and the switch.
Thanks a lot.

You need to make sure snmp is enabled on your devices with appropriate snmp community strings (read-only is sufficient). (Since you're studying for your CCNA you should know how to do this, or be able to find out how.)
With MRTG I suggest you run cfgmaker and indexmaker (part of mrtg package), making sure to use the approprate snmp community string, against each device. MRTG comes with very good documentation for these two programs.

Hi,
Thanks for your guidance, I just want to double check my understanding.
That mean: over at the router and the switch I need to insert something like 'snmp community public RO; snmp community private RW'. Then over at my desktop of server with MRTG installed I need to run cfgmakar and indexmaker to create MIB file?
Thanks a lot, can I email you directly if I faced any problem in the process of my study and in process of my career in future.
