Policy routing impact on performance

Hi

I would like to use policy routing on 3640 and 7206 routers. Apparently, policy routing can be fast switched as from IOS 12.0. However I am wondering about the performance impact. If any of you has it running, do you how much CPU is consumed by policy routing on your routers ?

Is there any latency introduced by policy routing on the 3640 and 7206 routers?

Thanks

Re: Policy routing impact on performance

There will be some impact, but how much will depend on the actual policies configured, etc. Probably, the best thing to do is to run some small traffic through the box and record the cpu util. Run it through again with the policy applied, and see what the difference is.

Also try to avoid using any of the "set default ..." or "set ip default ..." commands in your route-maps. These commands cause a big hit in performance.
