Port Flow Control 6509

Can someone tell me the difference between using flow control Desired on vs Desired OFF.

These are the flow negotiations between the trunk links between switch #on indicates the local port sends flow control to the far end; #off indicates the local port does not send flow control to the far end; #desired indicates the local end sends flow control to the far end if the far end supports it.
