Port Negotiation in a Cisco 3524 Switch

I have a 3524 switch and am wondering if it is possible to turn off port negotiation? And if so, how? I've tried several variations of the port negotiation command like no port negotiation and am getting error back saying unrecg. command.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

respectfully,

jm

If you want to disable this on a fast ethernet interface, set the speed and duplex to whatever you want. For a gigabit, use "no negotiation auto"

3524xl#conf terminal

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

3524xl(config)#int fastethernet 0/1

3524xl(config-if)#speed 100

3524xl(config-if)#duplex full

3524xl(config-if)#exit

3524xl(config)#int gigabitethernet 0/1

3524xl(config-if)#no negotiation auto

3524xl(config-if)#end
