Port Security Utilizing Discovery or a Database

Setting up port security and setting number MAC addresses is straight forward. I have heard that you could set port security and then discover MAC addresses tied to the switch your are working with and then have a database with the MACs. Could someone please enlighten me on the procedure for this. Inputs are appreciated.

Re: Port Security Utilizing Discovery or a Database

The souped-up, database-oriented version of port security is called VMPS. It's geared towards dynamic VLAN functionality but you can use it to block traffic from unauthorized MAC addresses. You should be able to find information by searching the site.
