hi,thank you for your reply,and,can you explain it to me detailly.
what dose the "r1 receive a challenge with its own name " mean?
what does "put in r2 alias-r2 and configure username accordingly " mean?
When a call from r1 to r2 ,r1 will not send a
challenge to r2,and r2 will send a challenge id labeled "alias-r1" ,right? Then,r1 receives the challenge,r1 will look its username database for "alias-r1",right? r1 find one ,ok,r1 will response r2's challenge using a labeled "alias-r1",
because r1 has been configured "ppp chap host alias-r1",right? Then what happened next?
by putting "ppp chap hostname alias-r1" into the BRI config on the r2 router the r2 router is passing "alias-r1" as it's hostname to the r1 router;
by having the same "ppp chap hostname alias-r1" in the r1 bri config you are assigning that name also to the r1 router;
eg r2 goes to r1 "Hi my name is alise-r1" and r1 one is going "cool, i'm talking to myself... i must be going crazy" so r1 disconnects...
you already have an entry "username r2 password 0 cisco" why do you wish to use another?, to de-complicate the config I'd remove the "ppp chap hostname alias-r1" from r1 and r2 and use the router hostname s as the dialin userID's
From what you say "ppp chap hostname alias-r1 is in both routers, this is bad as you are configuring both routers to use the ppp chap hostname "alias-r1" configured under that interface.
In most cases "ppp chap hostname" is used as part of an authentication config used to connect to routers on your network boarder of which you have no control, eg the username to use could be different to the configured router hostname so Cisco routers allow us to pass a different username via the ppp chap hostname, but if you are the controller there should be no need to use the ppp chap hostname.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
