PPP users being dropped despite activity

I have a group-async interface defined with a 20 minute timeout (dialer idle-timeout 1200). All users are dropped when their "Time Since Activation" exceeds the idle-timeout even though the idle timer under "sh users" reports an idle time of 00:00:00. The idle-timeout is being treated as an absolute timeout. I am currently running IOS ver. 12.1.9 and mica modem code 2.7.2.0 I have tried several versions of IOS and they all yield the same result. My ISDN customers work fine. This identical config (below) does not produce this result on two other identical AS5300s.

interface Group-Async1

ip unnumbered FastEthernet0

encapsulation ppp

no ip route-cache

no ip mroute-cache

dialer in-band

dialer idle-timeout 28800

async mode interactive

peer default ip address pool jacksondialup

no fair-queue

ppp authentication pap chap

group-range 1 192

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: PPP users being dropped despite activity

You need to add the following commands

to define "interesting" traffic, or

traffic that will reset the idle

timer:

int group 1

dialer-group 1

!

dialer-list 1 list 101

!

access-list 101 permit ip ......
