Problem of booting IOS/config from TFTP

Hi all,

I am not able to boot IOS from TFTP server instead of flash

My configuration is as follows:

1. Cisco 2621 with 12.0(7)T stored in flash

2. startup-config: boot system tftp c2600-js-mz.120-7.T <ip_tftp_server>

3. TFTP server is Linux RedHat

4. The IOS image file is stored in the root folder of TFTP server (it has been successfuly copied there using copy flash: tftp)

While booting I get following error:

Sleeping for 2 secs before next netboot attempt

%SYS-6-READ_BOOTFILE_FAIL: tftp://<ip_address>/c2600-js-mz.120-7.T File read fa

iled -- Timed out.

%Error opening tftp://<ip_address>/c2600-js-mz.120-7.T (Timed out)

Sleeping for 4 secs before next netboot attempt

%SYS-6-READ_BOOTFILE_FAIL: tftp://<ip_address>/c2600-js-mz.120-7.T File read fa

iled -- Timed out.

and so on ... up to 300 secs

Just to note that Ethernet LED is lighting green and <ip_address> answers pings

I have also tried to load config file from the net but got following error:

%Error opening tftp://<ip_address>/router-confg (Timed out)

Any suggestions very much appreciated.

Jakub

Re: Problem of booting IOS/config from TFTP

make sure

1. You can ping the tftp server

2.the permissions of the file on your tftp server are set to RW

Re: Problem of booting IOS/config from TFTP

when writing the file name, try writing it with ".bin" file extension. e.g : [c2600-js-mz.120-7.T.bin]

Re: Problem of booting IOS/config from TFTP

Check the logs on the tftp server, to see what error messages you are seeing. To boot from the server, you need only read permissions. To back up your configs or IOS to the server, you will need Read/write permissions. As in the other post, try using the .bin extension to the file name and see if it works.
