problem setting up routing

I have a customer that has had a non-typical address range setup by a long gone person. I am trying to setup an old router with an old version (11.0) if the IOS on it and it will not let me put in the mask I need for their network. Is there a command that will force it to use the mask I want?

Re: problem setting up routing

Hi

This depends of which routing protocol your running.

Some routing protocols will advertise the adress with classfull masks.

They are incapable of carrying subnet mask information in their updates.

This way the configuration under router will only accept the classfull address and mask.

Other are capable of carring this information and will let you use VLSM when configure.

Depending on routning protocol, try "no auto-summary", "ip classless" commands.

Re: problem setting up routing

Are you using a subnet zero ip address ?

Try using ip subnet-zero. I m not sure if that is supported in the 11.x series.

Check it out..
