I've configured a switched enviroment with several 3524XL connected trough a 12-port 1000SX 4912. Due to the failure of one 3524, I've connected one Catalyst 2950 (IOS 12.1). Everything looked to be fine, but Novell Clients (IP based) don´t work, altough IPX clients do. Any idea?
Maybe due to multicasting. Netware/IP clients by default use SLP to locate services, IIFC this by default uses multicast (22.214.171.124 & 126.96.36.199). The 2950 switch will by default be configured for IGMP snooping and will try and restrict multicast data to interested hosts. The 2900XL and 3500XL don't support IGMP and only do CGMP, but this is disabled by default so they will flood multicast throughout the VLAN. I think the 2950 won't do this by default. I suggest as a quick fix you disable IGMP snooping on the 2950. As a more permanent fix I would suggest sorting out a multicast design for your network.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
