When inserting the gbic into the 2950, the switch freezes and all activity stops.
when ejecting the gbic the switch continues operating.
In the log the following is displayed.

Newest IOS image found have been tried without luck. (c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-12c.EA1.bin)
There is no config of the port, default setting is used.
Is there a bug, or is it somting else.

What kind of copper GBIC is this? If it is WS-G5482, it is not supported in a CAT2950

WS-G5483 are supported in the 2950's

Hi Jan,
I have the same issue on 2950 with WS5484 Gbic (1000SX). In version 12.1.6EA2, it is working perfectly well but upgrading to version 12.1.12 or 12.1.13 (latest ones), the same Gbic gave me the same errror message as you. I have opened a TAC case, and it seems that the Gbics are not recognized so you have to change it (RMA). Not all the Gbics are provoking this error, so you have to find one which is recognized with the newest IOS version.
What the Gbic serial number looks like ? It seems that with the serial number and the part number written on the Gbics, you can know if this is a good one or not.
Cheers,
./Rémi
