Problem with etherchannel 3550--->6509

Hi ,

channel gets disabled with the following error following error ' %SPANTREE-2-CHNMISCFG: STP loop - channel 2/5-12 is disabled in vlan/instance 199 '

Setup is ======>

We have 2950----->3550------>6509 setup Two uplinks from 2950's connect to one each link to two of the 3550's (Distribution Layer) . From each 3550 there are 2 giga links going to 6509. channelling from one 3550 to 6509 is wking fine. there is a problem with 2nd 3550 channelling connecting to 6509.

we are able to configure but after some time it gets disabled with the following error ' %SPANTREE-2-CHNMISCFG: STP loop - channel 2/5-12 is disabled in vlan/instance 199 ' the error is described in the below link is similar to my problem

http://cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk389/tk213/technologies_tech_note09186a008009448d.shtml

any further suggestions ' no spanning-tree etherchannel guard misconfig ' does not help.

Thx in advance

Re: Problem with etherchannel 3550--->6509

Dont know how old your 6509 is but we had a similar problem. Our old 6509 run catos 5.something had a bug and always made itself the stp root. When we put another 6509 switch on it with a channel that switch should have become the root so after the selection process appear to fail it took the channel down. Both switches were claiming to be the root.

Try changing the stp priority on the new switch so it will definitely not become the root and see if the problem goes away.

I've seen the same thing. Resolved as follows:

set VTP to transparent on all switches.
