PVLAN redundancy questions

Hi, I have 2 questions related to PVLANS:

Does a switch have a per-vlan MAC address table also for(community)PVLANs?

My special question is, if identical Group IDs for 2 HSRP groups in 2 PVLANS of a Cat6500 (belonging to the same primary VLAN) can cause any problems.

Identical Group IDs result in identical MAC addresses, but this should not be a problem on a per-vlan MAC address table.

I know that I can trunk PVLANS between switches, but can I also have one promiscuous port (not a MSCF port, a real switchport) on every switch ?

Regards Guenther

Re: PVLAN redundancy questions

My understanding is that you should not have problems in running identical group ids for 2 HSRP groups in 2 PVLANs. I didn't get your 2nd part of your question quiet well.

Re: PVLAN redundancy questions

Hi, thanks for your update but in the meantime I discovered that there will be big problems when using the same HSRP Group ID on 2 seperate PVLANs.

From promiscuous port you will see the same MAC address on 2 ports (ports of active HSRP routers) belonging to the same primary VLAN. This does not work very well. Regards Guenther
