When we use QoS processing by means of DSCP values, will the process be in hard- or software? There has been a statement in the documentation, that software is always used, when special IP header entries are processed.
Thanks for clarification

QoS processing is always done in hardware

DSCP values is not present in special IP header. It is present in aLL IP headers in the TOS byte. These will be processed in hardware. Packets with IP options may need to be processed in software

Thank you for the information. But what are then "special IP header". Is it somewhat like application specific (properitary) extensions or changes to the header?
Just for satisfying my interest: Can you give me an example of those special headers?

IP packets with options like record route option
as you know IP header can contain options besides standard hearders.
