Question about CAR

I have a question about the rate-limit command.

Suppose I want to limit a particular type of traffic on an interface to 1 Mbps. How should I configure the rate-limit? 512 Kbps inbound and another 512 Kbps outbound? or specifying 1 Mbps in one direction is enough?

The direction is not quite clear for me, epecially how it affects traffic limitting.

Can someone shed some light?

thanx in advance.

Re: Question about CAR

hi,

if you want to set upstream and downstream traffic equal bandwidth you can give 512k input and 512k outpu traffic. but if you want to specify BW without giving direction you must directlygive the same BW to 2 dirction. specially you can select the traffic type to give BW with applying ACL to rate-limit

like this

access-list 110 permit 10.1.1.0 0.0.0.255 any

access-list 111 permit any 10.1.1.0 0.0.0255

int ser 0

rate-limit input access-group 110 1000000 8000 8000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop

rate-limit output access-group 111 1000000 8000 8000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
