Question about Cisco X2-10GB-ZR module

Dear all,

As per subject, i have questing about Cisco 10GB module. Iately we purchased 8 unit of this module, but we do not know what is the minimum length of SMF needed between them in order not to burn the Fiber / Fiber module. In the Cisco Website, we only can find the statement pasted at below.

##########################################################

Cisco X2-10GB-ZR

Supports link lengths of up to about 80 km on SMF. This interface is not part of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet standard but is built according to Cisco optical specifications.

* Minimum cabling distance for -LR, -SR, -LX4, -ER modules is 2m, according to the IEEE 802.3ae standard, and minimum cabling distance for -LRM modules is 0.5m, according to IEEE 802.3aq standard.

** Requires 5 dB 1550 nm fixed loss attenuator for < 20 km. Attenuator is available as a spare. The part number is WS-X6K-5DB-ATT=.

*** Links longer than 30 km are considered engineered links.

##########################################################

Cisco Webside did not disclosed any futher information about this module, hereby search for help with anyone who happen to know about detail of this module, or ever deployed with "X" Meter of distance.

Thanks.

Hi Paolo Bevilacqua,

Thanks for your reply. But no.., the double star "**" is apply to ER, i cut and paste entire table below for reference.

Cisco Website not even has ZR in the table. My understand is:

1 star = LR, SR, LX4, and ER can connect using 2M fiber without using Attenuator.

2 star = ER need to use Attenuator if below 20KM.

but above statement, ER is conflit in between 1 star and 2 star. Im not very strong in englis, so maybe im miss understand the english term, on top of that, it still did not mention ZR should use Attenuator?, i was looking for definate answer because that module is extremely expensive.

Thanks.

Re: Question about Cisco X2-10GB-ZR module

Yes for short links you will need attenuators of even 10 dB. refer to table 3
