Question about STP and Station Dual Homing

I have a server with 2 NICs. If I plug in the NICs to the same swtich and give different vlan to each port, will be any spanning tree issues that one port may be blocked?

If I connect the NICs to 2 different switches and give the same vlan for the 2 ports, will one port get blocked because of spanning tree?

I may not underdtand STP correctly. Like to get it right.

Thanks

Gary

Re: Question about STP and Station Dual Homing

If the server has 2 nics on different VLANS and is connected to the same switch you can run Per Vlan Spanning Tree. PVST+. This will keep a separate instance for each VLAN, also you put the server ports into portfast mode on the switch and it should not block on those ports, only on ports connected to other switches.
