Question about the BGP version table

Hi

I've got a bgp version table on router, cisco 3640 running IOS 12.2(5d). Currently the router says the following:

sh ip bgp

BGP table version is 130, local router ID is xxx.xxx.17.2

Why does it take about a minute to increment the version table after making a change in the bgp config?

Thanks

Shaz

Re: Question about the BGP version table

Hello,

the table version is the number of BGP updates processed. As some internal timers in BGP (f.e. scanner) are 60 seconds, it is not unlikely that it takes one minute before an update is processed and the table version increased by one.

If you want your changes to be announced immediately then execute the command

clear ip bgp [*|AS|peer-group PGname|neighborIP] OUT

Do not forget the "OUT" otherwise the BGP session will be terminated, which is typically not needed.

Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.

Regards, Martin
