"show multicast router" command

guys,

Any docs on this

I have two L2 switches (no L3) that connect to a couple of L3 switches. My mcast routers via ports 1/1 and 1/2. But when I use the command to show my multicast routers, i yeild two diferent results.

Imaging the typical "delta" access layer design for the topology. two L2 switches connected to two dist L3 switchs

I need to understand more about the command b4 I say that the output is incorrect?

SwitchMX35 looks correct, but the other switch does not?

switchMX35 sh multicast router

Port Vlan

---------- ----------------

1/2 25-26

2/2 25-26

Total Number of Entries = 2

'*' - Configured

'+' - RGMP-capable

switchMX35

switchMX85 sh multicast router

Port Vlan

---------- ----------------

1/2 25

2/2 26

Total Number of Entries = 2

'*' - Configured

'+' - RGMP-capable

switchMX85

Many thx all :)

In the first output(MX35) may be you are looking at a trunk that is carrying multiple vlans? That could be one of the reasons for the different output on this switch.

Look at the command refernce for the explanation of this command:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat5000/rel_5_5/cmd_ref/sh_p_sn.htm#xtocid1

I have had a look at the command ref and it is not that great an explanation :(

Both switchs carry the same VLANs on trunks 1/1 and 1/2 and this is why I am not sure why I am getting the difference in the show multicast router command as I would expect them to be the same ?

Please could you tell me if there is a better explanation of this command and what it actually is doing.
