Rapid Spanning tree with single instance?

I'm trying to setup rapid spanning tree between a pair of 6500's and an HP Procurve 4100. The HP switch only uses one instance of S/T across all vlans, whereas it looks like the Cat by default uses 1 instance per vlan. Is there a way to set the Cat to use one instance across all vlans? Is there any other way to make this work?

Does your HP switch support IEEE MST? 6500 in newer software versions, supports MST

According to HP support, the ProCurve switches only support single instance spanning tree. I have not seen any config options that would lead me to think otherwise.
