Rapid Spanning Tree

I have a 6509 distribution switch and 4500/4000/5500 access switches. I currently have most of my switches set for PVST+, but I would like to change them all to Rapid Spanning Tree. However, I discovered that the 5500 does not support rapid spanning tree how would this one device effect the convergence of spanning tree once I had all my devices updated and say I had to recalculate spanning tree would all the devices capable of rapid reclaculate using that algorithm or would the whole process be supject to utilizing the slower algorithm because the 5500 is only capable of PVST+?

Re: Rapid Spanning Tree

Hi,

RSTP reverts to normal 802.1D parameters when it detects a legacy switch in the segment. So the links from 5500 to other switch will work on 802.1d parameters but rest of the links between the switch which are not on 5500 will run the RSTP on them.

HTH, Please rate if it does.
