rate-limit

hi to everyone,

i have problems regarding rate-limt:

i have a fast-ethernet on a 1760 router, on which i configured rate-limit:

!

interface FastEthernet0/0

description Ethernet 0/0

ip address 10.22.223.109 255.255.255.252

rate-limit input 128000 1500 2000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop

ip route-cache policy

ip policy route-map set_ip_prec

load-interval 30

speed 100

full-duplex

no snmp trap link-status

no cdp enable

!

then i connected a traffic-generator and startet to forward traffic with 12mb/s to

the routers fast-ethernet.

i thougt the maximum inputrate can be 128000 b/s.

BUT:

r-grztr2#sh int fastEthernet 0/0

FastEthernet0/0 is up, line protocol is up

Re: rate-limit

Even though you have rate-limited on input, the actual interface will still see all of the packets (the controller still needs to deal with each packet before the forward / drop decision will be made).

Tye "sho int f0/0 rate-limit" to see if it is doing anything. Also, see how much traffic the router is actuially forwarding out of the other interfaces.

Good luck,

Warren.
