Reason to set serial interface mtu to 516?

Hello,

we have two 3640's with serial interfaces connected to Kentrox DSU/CSU with a full internet T1. They were initially setup by a consultant who has the mtu on the serial interfaces set to 516. Is there any reason to set it lower (we are using IPSec in tunnel mode)? Just wondering if this might be for performance or if it's something related to the external DSU/CSU or just a preference of the consultant. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Thanks....

The smaller the size, the less delay is. Useful for certain things, like dial up connections, voice, etc. The default is normally just fine.
