Reducing Network Broadcast

Hi, currently we have a Layer-2 Switched Network with A Cisco 2501 Router, 7 Catalyst 2912 and 2 Catalyst Switches. The Switches currently have no VLANs configured. We would like to reduce the broadcast on our network, can you suggest the best possible solution to acomplish this? Also is it possible to VLAN tag on A IP basis using a Layer-3 Switch perhaps, or is VLAN tagging done strictly by Subnet?

The 2501 will not be an appropriate device to do routing for this, as it only has one Ethernet interface, and does not do trunking. You’ll have to upgrade the router to a 2620 or so, set up VLANs, the trunk, etc. Check out the following document to get started:
