Redundant Power System (RPS) error ???

Hi group

Suddenly my Catalyst 3548XL (IOS v12.0(5)WC5) switch without Redundant Power System (RPS) shows some errors

%RPS-1-RPS_FAULTY: Redundant Power System is Faulty.

%RPS-1-RPS_NOT_PRESENT: Redundant Power System not connected.

And the RPS led is solid amber.

The "show RPS" command show FAULTY which according to the release note is;

"The RPS is connected but not operating correctly (faulty). One of the power supplies in the RPS could be powered down or a fan on the RPS could have failed."

It should be showing NA because RPS isn?t installed!

My question is then, what are these errors meaning and what can/should I do?

P.S: Ciscos Error Message Decoder don?t recognize the error codes!?

TIA

Peter

Re: Redundant Power System (RPS) error ???

at this point it sounds like your redundant power is not operational and no longer redundant.

you should verify the RPS is connected completely, securely and correctly to the 3458 as well as the power outlet.

if all is correct, double check the RPS to verify it is running and the fan is running. if either of these two are not operational, you should probably consider replacing it asap by contacting TAC from http://www.cisco.com/tac or 800.553.2447 (if the product is under warranty)

or if it is not under warranty, then your cisco reseller should be able to help you as well.

Re: Redundant Power System (RPS) error ???

Hi qpulos

Thank you for your respond.

But the whole point is that I don't have a RPS connected to the switch.

TIA

Peter
