redundant routers - redundant cores

I am wanting to setup my backup router into network. Currently, I have R1 (6500) plugged into SW1 assinged to VLAN 10.

I want to connect R2 into SW2 (6500)but it must be standby only....NO Load balancing.

I currently am config'd with even / odd vlans on both 6509s.

Does anyone have a config / link which cna assist with setting up redudant router in redudant core network?

Thanks

Re: redundant routers - redundant cores

Hi Friend,

I believe what you are looking for is HSRP to get you redundancy for your vlans. So what you are looking for is like your R1 should be a primary router for your vlan 10 suppose and once it goes down R2 should take care of your vlan 10 right?

If yes we can cofigure HSRP for your vlans.

Something like this

R1

interface vlan 10

ip address

standby ip

standby preempt

standby priority 110

R2

interface vlan 10

ip address

standby ip

standby preempt

In same way you can configure for all your vlans.
