Redundant Supervisor III module in 6509

I don't think it is doable, but I just want to make sure. Can (2) supervisor III modules in 6509 work together? In other words if I connect 2 gig ports in active supervisor module to another 4006 switch it will work, but if I take 2 other gig ports in a standby module and connect to other 4006 switch. will it work? I don't think so that (2) sup cards will work in parallel. To me, one must go down in order for standby card to kick in. Please help.

One of my customers was told by a Cisco SE that (2) sup cards can work at the same time.

Regards,

I believe you are referring to the Supervisor 2 engine for CAT6500. Yes the uplink ports on standby Supervisor engine are active and can be used to connect to your other devices

cs-6513-47a> (enable) sh mod

Mod Slot Ports Module-Type Model Sub Status

--- ---- ----- ------------------------- ------------------- --- --------

1 1 2 1000BaseX Supervisor WS-X6K-S2U-MSFC2 yes ok

2 2 2 1000BaseX Supervisor WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE yes standby

16 2 1 Multilayer Switch Feature WS-F6K-MSFC2 no ok

3 3 16 1000BaseSX Ethernet WS-X6416-GE-MT no ok

4 4 48 10/100BaseTX Ethernet WS-X6348-RJ-45 no ok

5 5 48 10/100BaseTX Ethernet WS-X6348-RJ-45 no ok

cs-6513-47a> (enable) sh port

* - indicates vlan mismatch.

# - indicates duplex mismatch.

If you are referring to CAT550x, you'll need to use the "set standbyports enable"
