Reg Input Drops vs Output drops of serial links

Hi,

Please clarify me what's the exact difference between "Input drops and Output drops". I have gone through Cisco's material.

E0 --- S0 ====================== S1

R-1 Serial link R-2

R-1 and R-2 are two routers connected through a Serial line. Please explain me, if between E0 and S0 of R-1, where is the possibility of Input drops and why? Possible output drops where can occur.
