Someone here entered the wrong registry number when I was attempting to talk him through a password recovery. He apparently entered 0x214 instead of 0x2142. Now the 2600 boots to what looks like chinese to me and even if I attempt to break the boot I cannot get in to the router. Any ideas???

The 0x214 should not have changed the console speed, which it sounds like is what happened if you are not seeing english-like characters. You may want to try experimenting with your console speed (1200, 2400, 4800, 9600).
Even if break were disabled, it should still be doable within the first 30 seconds after booting up. So try changing the console speeds, and when you see English try the break key again.

That's what worked, I changed the baud rate on the hyperterm session and was able to connect, then went through the password recovery routine and now the router is fine-thanks.
