reliably generate a syslogs and traps via SNMP or telnet script

We are predominately GSR,7500,6500, LD based organization (1000+ devices). Does any one have a way to reliably and unobtrusively generate a syslog and trap via SNMP or telnet script for any or all of the devices above. We desire to cause each device to send events at least once every 7 days and verify end-to-end delivery of events into Netcool based console; auditing logging as it were. We have met some success on the GSR's (with 12....+ IOS) of entering config mode in order to generate a SYS-5-CONFIG syslog. Some have mentioned that it is possible to Query or SET a particular MIB OID to cause the device to send a test syslog. We have not met much success trying to cause CAT's to kick a syslog but purposely failed SNMP query does generate SNMP-?-AUTHFAIL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: reliably generate a syslogs and traps via SNMP or telnet scr

Following are some of the MIBs that could help you.

CISCO-SYSLOG-MIB

CISCO-SYSLOG-EXT-MIB

CISCO-SYSLOG-EVENT-EXT-MIB

To find more info on these MIBs, please refer to:

ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/v1/

For additional information on syslog and traps refer to:
