Remote Console Connections

I'm looking for a solution that will provide direct console connection to my remote devices. I had worked in an enviroment where each office is equipped with a Cisco 2509 router and from this 2509's ASYNC interfaces, console cables are connected to ALL Cisco routers and switches at the remote branch. This solution works really well and since I've started with a new company, I would like to implement this solution again and is having trouble with:

1. Looking for a bunch of 2509 routers (needed 8 in total) and

2. Cannot buy as new since 2509 is EOL.

I'm looking to find an alternative to the above solution. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Re: Remote Console Connections

I see your point. Were you able to verify that the

Cisco 2509 is EOL? From the CCO, the 2509 and 2511

access servers were not on the list of the EOL/EOS

products. The 2510 and 2512 are EOL.

Also, I was bale to complete a configuration for a

Cisco 2509 using CCO's Dynamic Configuration Tool.

If you'll not be able to acquire a 2509, I don't

think there's another option cheaper than the

2600 series routers that can provide your requirement.

Thanks.

Re: Remote Console Connections

One option would be a Cisco 2600XM router (2610XM at least).

But you will need the following:

- NM-16A for the async connection.

- WIC for serial connection.

You might also want to use a NM-8A/S instead

of the NM-16A if you're planning to use some

ports for synchronous serial connection.

Hope this info helps.

Re: Remote Console Connections

Yeah but the price of a 2600+appropriate modules cannot justify for something that is used for console connections only. I'm looking for something that is way cheaper than a 2600+modules.

Re: Remote Console Connections

2509's are probably available for a song on EBAY. You could obtain enough to self-spare.

Good Luck :)
