remote console

I've saw a cisco switch/router that connected with connected ethernet cable to the console port. I was curious how the remote site console in with the ethernet cable from 100km place instead of using cisco rollover console cable.

please advise. thanks.

Re: remote console

I am not sure about your question. But Cisco has various products for out-of-band management. For instance the Cisco AS2509 and AS2511 Access Servers. They connect up to 16 routers with either an octal cable or roll-over cables.

The octal cable has a scsci connector on the far end and breaks out into either 8 or 16 RJ-45 cables. These are connected to the console port of the router.

However the Cisco AS2500 series are widely used, they're end-of-line for quite some time. Replacement product is NM-16A/S or NM-32A/S module for modular access routers such as 2600 and 2800 series routers.
