Replacing redundant sup2 on 6500

stupid question, I'm assuming that slot 1 is considered the primary and slot 2 on 6500 is secondary?

I need to replace primary and would like to move the current secondary sup2 into the primary spot? Is this a bad idea. From there the new board will be replaced in the secondary slot and I hope it will sync instead of having to configure.

Or should I configure my new blade excactly like the primary. Doing this would be one at a time then sync.

Which way is better do you have any suggestions.

I am assuming you have dual MSFC and dual SUP and both are version 2 (MSFC2 and SUP2). I am also assuming you have configured high-availability and redundancy for both MSFC2 and SUP2 and I am also assuming you have both blades with the same IOS/CatOS iamges. Yes you can replace the boards. Just watch the cables and port you will connect.

But if you do not have al that, you still can replace the boards but you will have to load the configuration from a TFTP server or from copy/paste or enter commands one by one.

The blades are interchangeble and you must have on slots 1 and 2 of a 6509.

I hope it helps you.
