RIP udate error

Can anyone tell me what are some of the possible causes of the error that I am seeing in my DEBUG IP RIP output. The error message is "RIP: ignored v2 update from bad source x.x.x.x on vlan1." Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Re: RIP udate error

Hi,

By default, IOS ensures that the source IP address of incoming routing updates is on the same IP network as one of the addresses defined for the receiving interface.

You can disable this check using the following command under 'router rip':

no validate-update-source

Hope that helps.

I would appreciate you rating the post if it helps.

Re: RIP udate error

Hello Paresh,

Thank you for the info. I didn't end up using the "no validate-update-source" command. But your explanation of the cause of the error messaage pointed me in the right direction and I was able to resolve the problem. Thanks again.
