Riverstone Routers Primary and Standby

I have 2 Riverstone routers connecting to a Cat 4948 on different ports with different IP addresses.

One Riverstone is active while the other is Standby. So, only one port on the 4948 is up at a time. e.g. 1/47 is up and up and 1/48 is down and down

They switch Riverstones via a Master controller GUI to do maintenance on side or the other.

Of course, the standby IP then becomes up and up, 1/48 and the active is down and down, 1/47.

They have to manually go into the 4948 and clear the arp for the standby to become active on 1/47.

Would an etherchannel trunk group solve this?

Re: Riverstone Routers Primary and Standby

Hello,

what if you change the ARP timeout on the relevant interfaces to the lowest value (1 second) ? This would clear the arp entry almost immediately...not sure if that will help in your situation.

Thanks GP. I will give it a try tomorrow, Monday.
