RJ45 - RJ45 Rollover Cable

I am needing to connect one of my laptops to a 2621 router.  I have a rollover, (console,) cable that has an RJ45 connection on each end and was wondering if I could use this instead of purchasing a serial to USB adapter for my standard console cable?  If so, what would the settings be in this case? I I can't find a setting that seems to work. (I am using PuTTY.)

Ethernet and serial are totally different concepts. Hooking a serial console cable to an Ethernet port is rather like hooking an analog phone line to an Ethernet port. They're completely different technologies. They just won't work together. No matter what pinouts/cables/etc you do. It's just different electrically.

You have no choice but to either find a computer with a built-in serial port, or to come up with a expansion card or USB module to add a serial port to your existing computer.
