ROOKIE: Cisco 2610/2620

I am just curious to know if there is an Network Module (part#) that I can use to upgrade a Cisco 2610/2620 router to have more FastEthernet interfaces. Hopefully upgradable to 3! Any luck or do I have to go with the 3600 series router?

Also, will this (NM-2FE2W) module work in a 2610/2620 router? Cisco documentation mentioned the 2600/3600 router but other said 'no'. Any one have any suggestions?

2610/20 doesn't have the throughput capacity for any more FE interfaces than its 1 or 2 built in ones. It just won't handle them. Must go to 3600. If you stick two NM-2FE2Ws in the thing, it's fine if you’re routing from 4 different lans to some serial links, but the backplane won't handle high speed switching of Fast Ethernet traffic from FE to FE interface.

The NM-2FE2W is only for the 3600 and not specifically for FE to FE traffic. Mostly for FE to serial ROUTING (not switching).

Cisco does have a new line of Network Modules for the 2600/3600 that WILL do FE to FE switching...because they have their own sub-backplane. Check them out at:
