routelimitexceeded error

Error Message

I am receiving the following error and here is the explanation and recommended action off CCO:

%IPRT-3-ROUTELIMITEXCEEDED: IP routing table limit exceeded - [chars], [int][inet]

Explanation The number of routes in the named IP routing table has reached the configured limit. No further routes will be added to the table.

Recommended Action Reduce the number of routes in the table, or reconfigure the limit.

This is pretty wierd because there is only one route in the router, a default route pointing to the serial interface. Any ideas?

Re: routelimitexceeded error

CSCdp73641 is listed as a DDTS that you might be running into for this.

It is listed as unrepreducible. Here are some notes from the DDTS and a work around that you might try.

In 12.0T and 12.1, a router whose IP routing table has all routes

removed, such as when shutting down the last interface with routes

on it, and then has routes added back, as when doing a no shut on

the same interface, may cause the following message to be displayed:

IPRT-3-ROUTELIMITEXCEEDED: IP routing table limit exceeded

and the routes may not be added back into the routing table correctly.

A workaround is to enter the command clear ip route *.

Hope this helps you,

Don
