Router (1721) Router setup completely by modem

Can someone tell me if it is possible to completely configure a router via modem. Everything from port assignments, security, and ip settings. We have a remote office in another country that needs a router but I would prefer purchasing it there and simply configuring it remotely. Is this possible?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you may provide.

It should be possible, although there is a chance of complications. You would have to connect a modem to the console port, since the AUX port will not allow you to have enable access unless an enable password has been configured. There is some info here that may help:

The console port is 38400, no parity, 2 stopbits, 8 databits by default (although this may change based upon the HW used, the speed may be 9600). DTR will be high, and there will be no modem or login control. When you dial in, you should get the prompt. The modem will need to be configured separately prior to connecting to the router, and you will need to use a rolled cable (all discussed in the URL above).

The configuration string used to configure a modem, depends on teh type of modem used. The above link will be supported only on a USR. Different modems need different strings, even though many AT commands would be common to both.
